The rule also covers the weekly consular visits held in towns outside Nantes.

Algerians in western France must now pay chancellery fees by bank card, as the Consulate of Algeria in Nantes no longer accepts cash.

ObservAlgerie reported that the consulate announced the change in a statement published on Friday, 6 November. The rule covers administrative services at the consulate and during its permanences, the outreach visits held in other towns.

The consulate said that electronic payment terminals (TPE) are installed in all its services.

The payment system will also be deployed at the permanences held in towns across the consular district.

These visits help Algerians who live far from Nantes to get several services without travelling to the consulate. Depending on each visit, they can include biometric passport applications, civil status paperwork, powers of attorney (procurations) and some national service matters.

People paying a fee will need a bank card at the counter. This applies both at the consulate and at the permanences in other towns of the district.

The change also affects people who used to bring the exact amount in cash for their fees. Users should therefore prepare before travelling, and bring a bank card to every paid procedure.

The consulate said the change would make payments easier and improve the quality of services offered to its community.
