Algeria's top hotels in the World Travel Awards
Every year, the World Travel Awards name "Algeria's Leading Hotel". Hotels in the wilayas of Oran and Algiers have won the title most often.
What the World Travel Awards are
The World Travel Awards were founded by Graham Cooke, who is based in London. The winners are chosen by an online vote. Votes come from people who work in travel and from the public. A vote from a verified travel professional counts twice.
Critics say the result depends on how many votes a hotel can gather, not on an inspection of the hotel.

The hotels that won most often
Three hotels have each won the title 3 times. Le Méridien Oran won in 2017, 2020 and 2022. Four Points by Sheraton Oran won in 2018, 2021 and 2023. The Hilton Alger won 3 years in a row, from 2013 to 2015.
The list holds 19 titles. Hotels in the wilaya of Oran won 8, and hotels in the wilaya of Algiers also won 8. Hotels in Annaba won 2, and Constantine won 1.
What the winners have in common
The World Travel Awards do not publish the reasons for a win. A win is a count of votes. So the points below are possible reasons, not proven ones.
The first point is the hotel brand. 18 of the 19 titles went to hotels that carry the name of an international hotel brand. The only exception is the El Djazair Hotel, in 2004. Large hotel groups can contact many past guests and ask them to vote. The 2 critics of the awards say that this kind of reach decides the results.
The second point is how new the hotel was. Le Méridien Oran opened in 2012 and first won in 2017. Four Points by Sheraton Oran opened in 2015 and first won in 2018. The Sheraton Annaba opened in 2017 and first won in 2019. So 3 hotels won within 5 years of opening.
The third point is what each hotel offers. The facts below come from the hotel groups and the travel press. No source links them to the votes.
The winning hotels
Le Méridien Oran Hotel & Convention Centre. It opened in 2012 as the first Le Méridien hotel in Algeria. It has 254 rooms and 42 suites. Its auditorium seats up to 3,000 people, and it has 23 meeting rooms. This makes it a hotel for large conferences as well as for travellers.
Four Points by Sheraton Oran. It opened in 2015 as the first Four Points hotel in Algeria. It has 170 rooms, including 20 suites. It stands on top of a cliff, with views of the Mediterranean Sea. It has a pool on its roof.
Sheraton Annaba Hotel. It opened in January 2017, as the seventh hotel of Marriott International in Algeria. It has 201 rooms on 18 floors.
Constantine Marriott Hotel. It opened in 2014. It has 180 rooms and suites. It has an indoor pool and an outdoor pool.
Hyatt Regency Algiers Airport. It opened in April 2019 as the first Hyatt hotel in Algeria. It has 320 rooms. It is the only hotel linked directly to the newest terminal of Algiers airport.
