Executive Decree No. 24-277 of 13 August 2024 defines the missions, organisation and operation of the health border control service at Algeria's sea, air and land entry points.
Executive Decree No. 24-277, dated 13 August 2024 and published in Official Journal No. 57 of 21 August 2024, sets out how the health border control service operates. The service is attached to each local public health establishment that serves a port, airport or land border crossing, and the list of services and the entry points attached to each province is fixed by ministerial order.
The service's tasks include preventing the spread of infectious diseases nationally and internationally, reporting suspected or confirmed notifiable diseases, and alerting the national focal point and the national health security agency to events that could be a public health emergency. Its medical staff check travellers' health and vaccination status, may isolate or quarantine suspect cases and goods, and may refuse entry to people who pose a public health risk. The decree applies the International Health Regulations (2005), to which Algeria is a party.
The text does not give a start date for the service's operation beyond its publication, and it does not set the amounts of any fines.
