Algeria's team of six secondary pupils finished first among 26 countries at the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad. They won nine medals, the most of any team, and two perfect scores.

The Olympiad ran from 26 June to 4 July. The four gold medallists were Kayan Abou El Kacemi of the mathematics lycée in Kouba, Algiers, Abderrahmane Si Ahmed of Batna, Mohamed Iqbal Tabib of Sétif, and Alaa Yahia of the Lycée Colonel Othmane in Béchar.

Abou El Kacemi and Si Ahmed scored full marks, a first for Algeria. Fairouz Benyounes and Liane Hernane, both from Kouba, won silver. Alaa Yahia was named African Queen of Mathematics.

The Minister of National Education congratulated the team on 4 July and received them in Algiers on Monday 6 July. The President also sent a message of congratulation.
