Applicants must now pay visa and service fees in cash at the centre on the day they file their application.

Capago Algérie, the provider that collects visa applications for France in Algeria, has suspended online prepayment of visa fees on a temporary basis.

The change took effect on 7 October. Capago repeated the information in a Facebook post on Thursday, 29 October.

Capago collects files on behalf of the French consular authorities, with centres in Algiers, Oran, Constantine and Annaba. The suspension covers only online prepayment, and applications can still be filed at these centres.

Applicants must now pay their visa and service fees in cash when they file their file. "Pay your visa and service fees in cash, directly at the Capago centre you depend on, on the day you file your application," the provider said in its post.

In practice, applicants no longer pay on the internet before their visit. They pay at the centre when they hand in their documents, and no extra steps are required.

Capago has also confirmed appointments automatically from 7 October, on a temporary basis. People with a booked slot no longer need to pay in advance to confirm it, and the other steps for preparing and filing a file have not changed.

No date has been announced for the return of online prepayment.
