The figure was given at a meeting between Algeria's farm minister and Ukraine's ambassador in Algiers.
About 30% of Algeria's cereal imports come from Ukrainian production, the Ukrainian embassy in Algiers said in a statement reported by TSA.
The meeting brought together the minister of agriculture, rural development and fisheries, Sid Ali Khaldi, and Ukraine's ambassador to Algeria, Oleksandr Voronin.
They reviewed the current situation and prospects for agricultural cooperation between Ukraine and Algeria. They also discussed trade between the two countries and direct contact between specialist bodies and companies.
According to the statement, food security received special attention, along with Ukraine's role as a supplier of farm products.
According to the statement, both sides want to keep developing their farm partnership and the cooperation that already exists between them.
Algeria counts among the world's largest cereal importers, according to the article. In recent years it has diversified its suppliers, turning to Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region.
Before 2019, France supplied half of Algeria's soft wheat imports. Since then, Algeria has sharply cut its imports of French wheat, and it now buys from other suppliers, including Russia and especially Ukraine.
In June, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimated Algeria's cereal import needs for the 2026-2027 season at 14.5 million tonnes.
