About Aïn Defla
The wilaya of Aïn Defla lies south-west of Algiers. Its capital is Aïn Defla, which the Romans called Oppidum Novum and which was named Duperré in the colonial period. It is wilaya number 44. It was created in 1984, under law 84-09, from the wilaya of Chlef. It has 36 communes in 14 dairas. The wilaya had 766,013 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
