About Aokas
Aokas is a coastal commune on the east coast of the wilaya of Béjaïa. It is the seat of the daira, or district, of Aokas, which also includes Tizi N'Berber. In Kabyle the town is called Aweqqas, a name explained as meaning "shark" or "sharks" in Tamazight. The commune had 15,990 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
