Algerian soprano Fairouz Oudjida returns to the Festival du Monde Arabe de Montréal (FMA) with her concert La diva du désert, blending Western opera with ancestral North African chants.
Born in the Algerian Sahara, Fairouz Oudjida brings Western opera into dialogue with the ancestral songs of Algeria, the Maghreb and the Middle East. Her repertoire draws on Amazigh chants, chaâbi poetry and Gnaoua resonances, telling a musical journey between roots and elsewhere.
The story of the concert follows her path from Hassi Messaoud to Montreal, presenting song as a space of memory, encounter and freedom.
