About Djelfa
The wilaya of Djelfa lies in central Algeria, on the High Plateaux, about 300 km south of Algiers. Its neighbours include the wilayas of Laghouat and Tiaret. Its capital is the town of Djelfa. The region is rich in Neolithic rock carvings. It is wilaya number 17. In 2026 parts of it became the wilayas of Aïn Oussera and Messaad. Before that it had 36 communes in 12 dairas, and 1,092,184 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
