Sheep prices before Eid: high through spring, then falling in late May

Local sheep stayed expensive through April and early May despite the imports for Eid al-Adha. In the last week before Eid, markets in Djelfa and Tiaret reported that prices were starting to fall.
On 7 April a seven-month lamb was offered for 85,000 dinars at the Bougtob livestock market, TSA reported, when the national minimum wage had just risen from 20,000 to 24,000 dinars. In April, videos from markets across the country showed prices still rising.
On 10 May, Horizons found very high prices at sales points in Ouled Fayet, west of Algiers. By 25 May, breeders at Hassi Bahbah in Djelfa and in Tiaret told reporters that large animals had lost 4 to 6 million centimes in value in a week.
Imported sheep were selling at about 50,000 dinars.
