Algeria and France restart cooperation on security and migration

Algeria's Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud visited Paris on 1 and 2 June. France said the two ministries had resumed regular work after months of tension.
Sayoud met his French counterpart Laurent Nuñez at the French Interior Ministry. They discussed security, organised crime and drug trafficking, and the return of Algerians without the right to stay in France.
They also agreed to work on changes to the 1968 agreement on Algerians in France, based on proposals France will make. The visit followed Nuñez's trip to Algiers in February, the visit of French minister Alice Rufo to Sétif on 8 May, and a visit by French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin to Algiers on 17 May to restart judicial cooperation.
France reports trade with Algeria of 9.4 billion euros in 2025, down 14.8 per cent.
