The Financial Action Task Force removed Algeria from its list of countries under increased monitoring for money laundering and terrorist financing. Algeria had been on this "grey list" since February 2025.
The decision was taken at the FATF plenary meeting in Paris, which ended on 19 June. Namibia was also removed. The FATF said both countries had completed their action plans, which an on-site visit confirmed.
Algeria had been added on 21 February 2025, and the European Union had added it to its own high-risk list in June 2025.
Algeria will keep working with the regional body MENAFATF. Removal is expected to make banking and investment with Algeria easier.
