Algeria takes part in the world skills championship for the first time

Two young Algerians are competing at WorldSkills in Shanghai. This is the first time Algeria has entered the world championship for trades and technical skills.
The 48th WorldSkills Competition opened in Shanghai on Tuesday 22 September. Algeria is represented by Akram Hariz in automotive technology and Yasser Haouas in mobile app development. Some Algerian reports spell the first name Heriz or Hazir.
The Minister of Vocational Training, Nassima Arhab, attended the opening. The ministry said the event lets the two trainees learn current international standards and meet young people from other countries.
Algeria joined the WorldSkills organisation in April 2026. The ministry's notice gives the competition dates as 22 to 27 September.
