Antar Yahia joins the national team staff as Petkovic stays on
The Algerian Football Federation added former captain Antar Yahia to the national team staff as assistant coach. Coach Vladimir Petkovic had not left after the World Cup, despite reports that he would.
In the days after the World Cup exit on 3 July, several Algerian media reported that Antar Yahia would replace Petkovic. The federation made no official announcement.
On Saturday 11 July it set up a commission to review the World Cup campaign and decide on the coach's future. According to TSA, Petkovic did not agree to leave by mutual consent, and the federation then named Yahia as his assistant.
The French club Angers, where Yahia coached the reserve team, confirmed his departure.
Petkovic's contract had been extended on 7 June, days after a 1 to 0 friendly win over the Netherlands in Rotterdam. In September the federation named Brahim Hemdani head coach.
