The Ministry of Religious Affairs announced that Eid al-Adha would be celebrated on Wednesday 27 May 2026. Algerians had three days of paid holiday, from Wednesday to Friday.
The ministry announced on the evening of Sunday 17 May that the month of Dhu al-Hijja would begin on Monday 18 May. That placed the day of Arafat on Tuesday 26 May and Eid on Wednesday 27 May.
The date matched Saudi Arabia and most Muslim countries, including Tunisia, Egypt and Turkey. In France, home to a large Algerian community, the French Council of the Muslim Faith set the same date on 18 May.
