Names and numbers of the 11 new wilayas fixed by decree
A presidential decree gave the 11 new wilayas their official names and numbers, from 59 to 69. Each takes its name from the town that becomes its seat.
The decree appeared in Official Journal no. 40 in early June. The numbers are: 59 Aflou, 60 Barika, 61 El Kantara, 62 Bir El Ater, 63 El Aricha, 64 Ksar Chellala, 65 Aïn Oussara, 66 Messaad, 67 Ksar El Boukhari, 68 Bou Saâda and 69 El Abiodh Sidi Cheikh.
This order is different from the unofficial numbers given by a member of parliament in November 2025.
The same Official Journal published executive decree 26-208 of 26 May 2026, which sets out how assets and debts are shared between each parent wilaya and its new wilaya. Most of the new wilayas were already "delegated wilayas" since 2022.
