The fee for an Algerian passport at a consulate will now be set each year from the dinar's real exchange rate. Before this, Algerians abroad paid 60 euros for a passport that costs 6,000 dinars at home.
A ministerial order published on Saturday 29 August puts into practice a change in the Finance Law for 2026. The Bank of Algeria sends the yearly conversion rates by 7 January, and consulates use them to set the fee in each foreign currency.
The change came from an amendment by Farès Rahmani, a member of parliament for the diaspora, who had called the old fee unfair.
