Road projects advance in several wilayas, ministry says

Road projects are under way in several wilayas across Algeria, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, as part of its 2026 programme.

Anternews reported that work to develop, strengthen, repair and modernise the road network is continuing in many wilayas. The work is part of the 2026 programme, carried out under instructions from Abdelkader Djellaoui, minister of public works and basic infrastructure, in coordination with the walis.

The aim is to improve road conditions, link wilayas and make travel and transport easier.

Projects in the east

In Souk Ahras, work on the first section of the dual carriageway of National Road 16 is progressing, the ministry said. A second section of another national road, from kilometre point 4+500 to 8+900, is being strengthened under the 2026 road strengthening programme. The work also includes treating damaged sections.

In Skikda, work on the dual carriageway of National Road 85 is progressing over 14.4km, linking Aïn Bouziane and Sidi Mezghiche. The work includes digging and levelling, filling the road with materials and building drainage structures.

In Batna, the dual carriageway linking National Road 88, at the Khenchela border, and National Road 3 is progressing over 56km. Separately, National Road 3 is being strengthened over 13.5km, between kilometre points 238+000 and 251+500.

In El M'Ghair, the start of the dual carriageway of National Road 3 was marked for both of its sections. The 20km project runs between the communes of Tendla and Sidi Imrane.

In Guelma, work continues on section 06 of the dual carriageway of National Road 20.

In Béjaïa, the rehabilitation of the Kharrata tunnels on National Road 09 is progressing, with work on tunnels T2 and T3. The project is part of a programme to modernise road infrastructure, improve safety and make travel better for users of this strategic route.

Projects in the west, centre and south

In Oran, the dual carriageway of National Road 108 is progressing over 12km. The project aims to link the east-west motorway to the border of Aïn Témouchent wilaya and improve traffic flow.

In Bouira, the modernisation of wilaya road 93 is under way over 20km. The road runs through the communes of Al-Akhdariya (Lakhdaria), Maâlaa (M'Chedallah) and Zbarbar.

In the communes of Amchedallah and Sahariedj, the director of public works made a field visit to follow up the strengthening of National Road 30 over 7.4km. Rehabilitation of the road linking National Road 30 and Iliten is also under way in the same two communes, under the 2026 sector programme.

In Ghardaïa, work to maintain the airport runway and its annexes has been completed. The aim is to keep the airport ready and in use under good conditions.
