Two Kherrata tunnels reopen on RN 9 after modernisation

The works upgraded lighting, ventilation and electromechanical systems in both tunnels.
Two tunnels at Kherrata, on the RN 9 road in Béjaïa wilaya (region), reopened to traffic on Tuesday, 3 November, after modernisation works, Algérie 360 reported.
The reopening came during commemorations of the 72nd anniversary of the start of the Revolution of 1 November 1954. It marks the end of work on tunnels T1 and T2, which were rehabilitated and brought up to standard.
The work covered electromechanical equipment, lighting and ventilation systems, and devices to improve drivers' safety.
The upgrade is meant to improve visibility inside the tunnels, make traffic easier to monitor and help prevent accidents.
The reopening should help restore traffic flow on RN 9, a road used by motorists and for carrying goods. For people in Béjaïa, it should mean easier trips and better road links with neighbouring wilayas, with fewer travel difficulties in the region.
Mohamed Meziane, wali (governor) of Béjaïa, supervised the ceremony to put the tunnels back into service. Attending were the president of the wilaya assembly (APW), the heads of the Kherrata and Darguina daïras, the director of public works and representatives of the Algerian-Turkish group in charge of the project.
The wali asked road users to respect speed limits, road signs and safety instructions to keep the road safe.
