Three ministers launched the building works of the integrated phosphate project during a two-day visit to the east. The first ceremony, at the port of Annaba, started work on the quay that will load phosphate and fertiliser for export.

The Minister of State for Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, led the visit on 23 and 24 September with the Minister of Public Works, Abdelkader Djellaoui, the Minister of Mines, Mourad Hanifi, and Sonatrach's chief executive, Noureddine Daoudi.

On the evening of Wednesday 23 September, with the wali of Annaba, Abdelkrim Lamouri, they launched work on the port facilities of the mineral quay, which the Chinese company CHEC is building.

From mine to port

Arkab described the port as the last link of a chain that joins the Bled El Hadba mine at Bir El Ater, the chemical plant at Oued Kebrit in Souk Ahras, and the railway to Annaba. He asked the companies to keep close coordination between all the sites.

The delegation then continued to Souk Ahras, Tébessa and Bir El Ater. The launch follows the building contracts signed on 12 August.
