Islam Slimani is an Algerian striker and his country's all-time top scorer, with 46 goals. He won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria. He was born on 18 June 1988 in Algiers.

Slimani grew up in Aïn Benian, on the coast west of Algiers. He played for the town's club and then for JSM Chéraga, in the third division, where he was still playing in 2009.

His career then moved quickly. CR Belouizdad signed him in 2009, and in 2013 he moved to Sporting CP, in Lisbon. There he scored 57 goals in 111 matches and won the Portuguese Cup in 2015.

In August 2016 Leicester City paid a club record fee for him. Loans to Newcastle, Fenerbahçe and AS Monaco followed, then spells at clubs in France, Portugal, Belgium, Brazil, Algeria and Romania.

With Algeria he scored against South Korea and Russia at the 2014 World Cup, when the team reached the knockout stage for the first time. He had been named Algerian player of the year in 2013.

By September 2026 he had 105 caps, but he was not in the squad for the 2026 World Cup. That month, aged 38, he said that he wanted to keep playing.
