About Casbah
The Casbah, the old town, or medina, of Algiers, is also a commune of the wilaya of Algiers. UNESCO added it to the World Heritage List in 1992 as a unique kind of medina. It belongs to the Bab El Oued circonscription administrative, one of the 13 groups of communes created by decree 26-112 of 8 March 2026. It had 36,762 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
