El Marsa (Algiers)

El Marsa is a coastal commune at the eastern end of the Bay of Algiers. It belongs to the Rouïba circonscription administrative, one of 13 groups of communes created by decree 26-112 of 8 March 2026. It had 12,100 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS). In the colonial period El Marsa was called Jean-Bart. Tamentfoust, its old harbour quarter at the eastern tip of the Bay of Algiers, was called La Pérouse.
