About Batna
The wilaya of Batna lies in the north-east of Algeria, in the Aurès mountains. Its neighbours include the wilayas of Mila, Oum El Bouaghi, Sétif, Khenchela and Biskra. Its capital is the town of Batna. The wilaya holds the Roman cities of Timgad and Lambaesis. It is wilaya number 05. In 2026 part of it became the wilaya of Barika. Before that it had 61 communes in 21 dairas, and 1,119,791 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
