About Khenchela
The wilaya of Khenchela lies in eastern Algeria. Its neighbours include the wilayas of Oum El Bouaghi, Tébessa, El Oued, Biskra and Batna. Its capital, Khenchela, stands on the site of Mascula, a Roman city. It is wilaya number 40. It was created in 1984, under law 84-09, from parts of the wilayas of Oum El Bouaghi and Tébessa. It has 21 communes in 8 dairas. It had 386,683 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
