The online portal is due to open in the second half of October 2026.

The Austrian Embassy in Algeria has announced fully funded PhD places at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA), with a deadline of 8 January 2027.

The embassy made the announcement in a Facebook post on 22 October 2026, as ObservAlgerie reported. The call covers doctoral programmes at the institute in Klosterneuburg, near Vienna.

Who can apply?

Holders of a bachelor's or master's degree can apply. For Algerian graduates in these fields, this is a route to a fully funded doctorate in Austria.

The places cover astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, data science, scientific computing, earth sciences, mathematics, neuroscience and physics. Candidates from related fields can also apply.

The selection looks at academic record, scientific skills, research experience and motivation. The process starts with a review of applications, and shortlisted candidates are then interviewed.

What does the programme offer?

The doctorate is fully funded. It comes with a five-year work contract and full social cover.

Doctoral students receive a salary. The programme presents it as in line with international pay levels.

Teaching and research take place in English. The course combines interdisciplinary classes with research projects, supervised by the institute's academic staff. Students also have access to science facilities, research equipment and career support services.

The 2027 intake is scheduled to start on 15 September 2027.

How do I apply?

Applications must be made through the institute's official online portal. The portal is due to open in the second half of October 2026.

Applicants must send a CV, a motivation letter describing their studies and scientific interests, their diplomas and transcripts, and contact details for three people who can write references. Documents must be in English. Diplomas and transcripts must also be provided in their original language.

The deadline for applications is 8 January 2027 at 15:00 Central European Time, which is also 15:00 in Algeria.

Referees have until 12 January 2027 at 23:59 to send their letters.

Candidates can read the admission conditions on the institute's official website. The institute said that only applications submitted through its online platform are accepted.
