Two Algiers to Marseille crossings were postponed while the ship was held, and the company has not explained the detention.

Algérie Ferries' ship Tariq Ibn Ziyad left the Spanish port of Alicante on the night of 4 November, after being held there since 27 October.

Algérie Eco reported on Thursday, citing the maritime news site Le Marin. The ship was held for deficiencies found during a port state control inspection under the Paris Memorandum.

According to Le Marin, the nature of the deficiencies is not known at this stage.

Tracking data on VesselFinder and My Ship Tracking show that the ship has resumed sailing towards the port of Algiers.

The company has not published any official statement about the ship's release or the reasons for its detention.

Algérie Ferries postponed two crossings between Algiers and Marseille that were planned for the Tariq Ibn Ziyad. Other sailings were also changed.

Travellers' social media posts said on Wednesday morning that the Marseille to Algiers ferry had been brought forward to 07:30. It was first scheduled to leave at 12:00.

Algérie Eco reported that the company should be able to restore its usual timetable gradually once the ship is back, notably on the Marseille to Algiers route.

With the Tariq Ibn Ziyad back, the company should have three working ships: the Tariq Ibn Ziyad, the Tassili II and the El Djazaïr II.

The fourth ship, the Badji Mokhtar III, remains out of service at the Onex shipyard in Greece, where it is in a long technical stop.
