The Prime Minister visited Tissemsilt on 24 September 2026 and announced that imports of plastic parts for car making would end, as the General Plastic Injection (GPI) plant in Khemisti comes into production.

The plant was launched on 29 April 2026 on the site of a company confiscated by the courts, now run by the public holding Algeria Chemical Specialities. It covers more than 107,000 square metres in the Sidi Mansour industrial zone and makes plastic parts and accessories for vehicles.

In April the Prime Minister said production would start in September. The plant is part of the plan to raise local content in car manufacturing.
