Khalida Boufedeche, a doctor and FLN deputy for Algiers, was elected president of the National People's Assembly. She is the first woman to hold the post.

The vote took place on Tuesday 28 July, at the start of the tenth legislature. She won 302 of the 366 votes cast, against candidates from the MSP and the RCD. She replaces Brahim Boughali, who led the Assembly from 2021 to 2026.

Boufedeche is an allergy and clinical immunology specialist trained at the University of Algiers. She worked at Béni Messous hospital and headed a department at the Algiers health directorate. She sat on the communal assembly of Bordj El Bahri from 2012 to 2017 and on the Algiers wilaya assembly before her election as a deputy.

President Tebboune received her on 29 July. Only 25 women were elected among the 407 deputies.
