Al-Shamal beat Al Hilal 3-1 in Qatar, with Mahrez setting up two goals.

Algerians Riyad Mahrez and Baghdad Bounedjah helped Al-Shamal to their first ever win in the AFC Champions League Elite, beating Saudi side Al Hilal 3-1 in Qatar on Tuesday.

The match was 1-1 at half-time. Mahrez set up a goal for Bounedjah in the 48th minute. He then set up another, scored by Tunisian Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane in the 54th minute.

Awras reported that the win came in the third round of the competition. It was only Mahrez's third appearance for his new club, and he had won the competition's title with Al Ahli during the last two seasons.

Mahrez left Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia after three full seasons with the club. He started his new career in Qatar a few days before the Al Hilal match.

Bounedjah, who is from Oran, had five goals for the season after the Al Hilal match. He had also scored against Ittihad Jeddah in the opening match, which ended 1-1.

The win is Al-Shamal's first in the competition, but the reports do not say where it leaves the club in the table.

On Friday, Al-Shamal lost 1-4 to Al Sadd in the Qatari league, despite a penalty by Mahrez that made it 1-1 before half-time.
