Riyad Mahrez is an Algerian winger known for his dribbling and his left foot. As captain, he led Algeria to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations title. He was born on 21 February 1991 in the Paris area.
Mahrez grew up in Sarcelles, north of Paris. His father came from El Khemis, in the Beni Snous area near Tlemcen, and the family spent holidays in Algeria.
After starting at Quimper and Le Havre, he joined Leicester City in 2014. 2 years later, Leicester won the Premier League, a title nobody expected, and the players voted him Player of the Year.
Manchester City signed him in 2018, and he won 4 more league titles and the Champions League in 2023. That summer he moved to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.
For Algeria the winger played from 2014 to 2026. His free kick in the 2019 semi-final sent the team to the final, and at the 2026 World Cup he scored twice against Austria.
After that World Cup, in July 2026, he stopped playing for the national team. He remains one of the best-known Algerian players of his generation.
