New national coach names his first squad for African Cup qualifiers

Brahim Hemdani, the new coach of Algeria's national football team, named 26 players for two qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Algeria host Zambia in Tizi Ouzou on 25 September.
The Algerian Football Federation appointed Hemdani on 5 September, replacing Vladimir Petkovic after the World Cup. In the summer Hemdani led the under-21 team to gold at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto without losing a match.
Hemdani is a former Algeria international who coached Marignane in France until 2025. Antar Yahia and Moussa Saïb are part of the staff around him.
The squad meets from 21 September to 6 October. Algeria play Zambia in Tizi Ouzou on 25 September and Burundi in Bujumbura on 29 September, then a friendly against Niger on 6 October. Riyad Mahrez and Aïssa Mandi have both retired from international football.
