About Souk Ahras
The wilaya of Souk Ahras lies in north-east Algeria, on the border with Tunisia. It borders the wilayas of El Tarf, Guelma, Oum El Bouaghi and Tébessa. Its capital, Souk Ahras, is ancient Thagaste, where Saint Augustine was born in 354. It is wilaya number 41. It was created in 1984, under law 84-09, from the wilaya of Guelma. It has 26 communes in 10 dairas. The wilaya had 438,127 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
