Hamma Botanical Garden
A large botanical garden on Rue Mohamed Belouizdad in Belouizdad, known as the Jardin d'Essai. Visitors enjoy walking among well kept greenery and many rare trees, with cafés inside. A metro station stands at the entrance, and a cable car across the street climbs to the Martyrs' Memorial.
The Jardin d'Essai du Hamma, a botanical garden of 32 ha, was created in 1832 on drained marshland as a model farm and nursery. It combines a formal French garden, an English style garden with a lake, and a zoo of North African animals. After restoration work that began in 2004, it reopened to the public in 2009.
