About Palace of the Dey
An Ottoman palace of the 16th century on Boulevard Mohamed Taleb in the Casbah, once a centre of power. Visitors can see the mosque, the baths, the powder magazine and old foundations, in a site under careful restoration.
Begun in the early 16th century, the citadel, Dar Es Soltane, became the seat of the Dey, the ruler of Algiers, in 1816. It holds the Dey's palace and mosque, a hammam, or steam bath, and the powder magazine, Dar El Baroud.
