Lake Fetzara
A large, shallow lake and marsh in Berrahal, in the plain south west of Annaba, listed since 2003 as a Ramsar wetland of international importance. Waterbirds such as the greylag goose spend the winter there.
Lake Fetzara stretches about 17 km from east to west and 13 km from north to south.
Since 2003 Lake Fetzara has been a Ramsar site, a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.
The Ramsar site reaches beyond Berrahal, into Eulma and Cheurfa on its southern side.
On the northern side of the lake, towards the east, the Ramsar site reaches into Oued El Aneb.
The 3 main wadis, or rivers, that feed the lake include Oued El Hout from the south and Oued Mellah from the west.
In winter the lake shelters many waterbirds, above all the greylag goose, with more than 1% of its international population.
Counts have found more than 10,000 greylag geese at the lake.
The new town of Draa Errich was built close to the lake, on its northern side.
