The port
Annaba is also a trading and fishing port, which in the colonial period shipped wine and citrus fruit as well. In 2026 the port of Annaba, a commercial and industrial port, is run by the Entreprise Portuaire d'Annaba (EPAN).
Iron and steel
After independence, the Algerian state made Annaba a major industrial centre by creating an iron and steel complex at El Hadjar. The complex, which is not open to the public, lies in the commune of Sidi Ammar, in the daira of El Hadjar.
