About Jijel
The wilaya of Jijel lies in the north-east of Algeria, on the Mediterranean coast, in Petite Kabylie. Its neighbours include the wilayas of Béjaïa, Sétif, Mila and Skikda. Its capital, Jijel, was the ancient Punic trading post of Igilgili. It is wilaya number 18. It has 28 communes in 11 dairas. The wilaya had 636,948 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
