The loading of 18,975 tonnes in one day was part of a 50,000-tonne operation that began on 2 November.

Djen Djen port in Jijel has shipped 50,000 tonnes of cold direct reduced iron (C-DRI) to Germany, for the Hansaport terminal in Hamburg.

Algérie 360 and Algérie Eco reported the figures from a statement issued by the port company on Friday.

The loading started on 2 November aboard the vessel BULK PRUDENCE.

The cargo is shipped on behalf of the operator, MED International Holding SPA. The shipment is part of Algerian exports of steel products to foreign markets.

On 5 November, the port loaded 18,975 tonnes of C-DRI in less than 24 hours, as part of the wider 50,000-tonne operation.

How the port loaded so fast

The port's infrastructure management gave three reasons for the speed. The first is the readiness of the installations.

The second is smooth exchanges between everyone involved in the chain. The third is the skill of the teams and the availability of handling equipment.

C-DRI is an intermediate steel product in high demand from European steelworks. Its shipment to Germany shows Algerian iron is finding buyers in a market that demands high quality and short delivery times.

The port can take large bulk carriers, which are ships built to carry loose cargo.

What shipping depends on

Professionals in the sector said that regular calls, ship availability and reliable deadlines weigh as much as one-off records when foreign shippers choose a port.
