The national plan covers 95 projects in 24 wilayas, over a total length of 853.5km.

Abdelkader Djellaoui, public works minister, put a 10km expressway upgrade into service in Tipaza wilaya on Saturday, as part of a national plan covering 56 road projects.

Echorouk Online reported, citing a statement from the public works sector, that the national plan covers 95 projects across 24 wilayas. Of these, 56 will enter service over a total length of 464.5km. The other 39 are new projects that will be launched along 389km.

The Douaouda to Bouismail expressway upgrade was put into service during the second stop of the minister's working visit to Tipaza. He was accompanied by Mohamed Amine Ben Chaoulia, the governor of Tipaza wilaya.

The works included resurfacing the road with asphalt concrete and building a concrete central divider. They also widened engineering structures and built rainwater drainage networks. Public street lighting was added along the route.

What it means for drivers

The project starts at the border of Algiers wilaya and runs along the coastal strip of Tipaza. According to the statement, it should improve traffic flow and ease congestion, especially at peak times and during the summer season.

The statement also says it should improve road safety and reduce the time needed to travel between Algiers and Tipaza. It is also expected to support economic and tourism activity in the area.

Other works on the visit

During the visit, the minister inspected work to improve the interchange on the Bouismail to Cherchell expressway, in Tipaza commune. The project includes a 1.2km engineering structure. It aims to increase the road's capacity and improve its link with the expressway. Djellaoui ordered faster work so the project is finished and put into service within the set deadlines.

At the same stop, the minister put into service a rebuilt engineering structure on National Road 11, at kilometre point 34+146 in Douaouda commune.

The visit began with a presentation on the public works sector in Tipaza. It covered the list of registered projects, how far each has progressed, and future priorities for roads and basic infrastructure.
