Road works advance in several wilayas, ministry says

The Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure says work on road projects is moving ahead in several wilayas, covering repairs, upgrades and airport maintenance.

Ennahar Online reported that the projects are part of the 2026 programme. They follow instructions from Abdelkader Djellaoui, minister of public works and basic infrastructure, and are carried out with the wilaya governors (walis).

The projects aim to improve the road network, strengthen links between wilayas and make travel and transport easier.

For drivers and passengers, the main change is easier travel between wilayas, as the roads are repaired and upgraded.

Dualling means building a second carriageway, so that traffic in each direction has its own road. Reinforcement means strengthening the road surface and repairing damaged sections.

Dualling and reinforcement

In Souk Ahras, work on the asphalt concrete surface layer is moving ahead on the first section of the dualling of National Road 16.

Reinforcement work is also under way on National Road 16m, in the second section between kilometre points 4+500 and 8+900.

In Skikda, work on the dualling of National Road 85 is progressing over 14.4km, between Aïn Bouziane and Sidi Mezghiche. Crews are digging and levelling the ground, filling the road with material and building drainage structures.

In Batna, a dualling project links National Road 88, at the Khenchela wilaya border, with National Road 03 over 56km, and work is progressing. Reinforcement of National Road 03 is also under way over 13.5km, between kilometre points 238+000 and 251+500.

In El M'Ghair, the dualling of National Road 03 has been officially started in both sections. The 20km route runs between the communes of Tendla and Sidi Amrane, passing through Djamaa.

In Guelma, work continues on the asphalt surface and a cement joint on section 06 of the dualling of National Road 20.

In Oran, work on the dualling of National Road 108 is progressing over 12km. The project aims to link the East-West motorway to the border of Aïn Témouchent wilaya and improve traffic flow.

In Bouira, work is modernising wilaya road 93 over 20km, through the communes of Lakhdaria, Maala and Zbarbar. The work includes laying a prime coat, a thin layer that helps the new surface bond to the road.

Tunnels and airport

In Béjaïa, work to repair the Kherrata tunnels on National Road 09 has made progress on tunnel T2 and tunnel T3. The work is part of a programme to modernise road infrastructure, which aims to improve the structures, road safety and travel on the route.

In Ghardaïa, maintenance of the runway and annexes of Ghardaïa airport has been completed. The work aims to keep the airport ready and ensure it can keep operating in good conditions.
