Aïn El Turk

Aïn El Turk is the wilaya's best known seaside resort, about 15 km north west of central Oran. The name means "the spring of the Turks", and its beach was once a landing point for janissaries, soldiers of the Ottoman army. It is the seat of the daira, or district, of Aïn El Turk, which also includes Bousfer, El Ançor and Mers El Kébir. The commune had 37,010 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
