About Tamanrasset
The wilaya of Tamanrasset lies in the Sahara, in the far south of Algeria. Its neighbours include the wilayas of In Salah, Illizi, In Guezzam and Adrar. One explanation of the Tuareg name of its capital, Tamanrasset, is "the place of water". It is wilaya number 11. In 2019 part of it became the wilayas of In Salah and In Guezzam. It now has 5 communes in 3 dairas. Before 2019 it had 176,637 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
