About Tiaret
The wilaya of Tiaret lies in west-central Algeria, on the High Plateaux. Its neighbours include the wilayas of Tissemsilt, Relizane, Mascara, Saïda, El Bayadh and Djelfa. Near Tiaret, its capital, stood Tahert, capital of the Rustamid kingdom from the 8th century. It is wilaya number 14. In 2026 part of it became the wilaya of Ksar Chellala. Before that it had 42 communes in 14 dairas, and 846,823 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
