Bordj El Kiffan

Bordj El Kiffan is a seaside commune about 15 km east of Algiers, between the mouth of the El Harrach river and Cap Matifou. In the colonial period the town was called Fort-de-l'Eau. Its present name comes from an Ottoman fort that formed part of the outer defences of the Bay of Algiers from 1516 to 1830. Bordj El Kiffan had 151,950 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
