Rouïba

Rouïba is a commune of the wilaya of Algiers and the seat of the Rouïba circonscription administrative. It is one of 13 groups of communes created by decree 26-112 of 8 March 2026. The name Rouïba is older than the colonial period, and its meaning is disputed. One proposal sees it as a diminutive, or small form, of ghaba, meaning "small wood". Rouïba had 61,984 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
