Raïs Hamidou

Raïs Hamidou is a coastal commune of the wilaya of Algiers, around the cape of Pointe Pescade. The commune bears the name of Hamidou ben Ali, known as Raïs Hamidou, a corsair of Algiers in Ottoman times. In colonial times the commune was called Pointe Pescade. It belongs to the Bab El Oued circonscription administrative, one of the 13 groups of communes created by decree 26-112 of 8 March 2026. It had 28,451 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
