Constantine is a city and commune of the wilaya of Constantine, in eastern Algeria. Its old town, with narrow streets, mosques, baths and souks, or markets, stands on a rock above the Rhumel gorge. It had 448,374 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS). Its landmarks include the Sidi M'Cid bridge, the Sidi Rached viaduct, the Palais Ahmed Bey and the Emir Abdelkader Mosque.
