Zighoud Youcef

Zighoud Youcef is a commune of the wilaya of Constantine, in eastern Algeria. The town is the seat of the daira, or district, of Zighoud Youcef, which also includes Beni Hamiden. In the French colonial period the town was called Condé-Smendou, after the Oued Smendou, the river on which it stands. It was later renamed after Zighoud Youcef, a leader of the independence movement in the north of the Constantine region. It had 35,248 inhabitants at the 2008 census (ONS).
